A Trip To – France

A Trip To – France

I feel like my blog is turning into a travel blog, sorry about that! Yes, I went on another exciting adventure, this time a bit further afield than Scotland – I travelled to France. I won’t bore you with all the nitty-gritty details of what I got up to 24/7 but here are a few wonderful places that I visited whilst on my travels:

1). Les jardins de Marqueyssac, Périgord

These hanging gardens give gorgeous panoramic views of the Dordogne valley below. It’s a wonderful place to visit with thousands of beautifully sculpted box hedges and topiary sculptures. It’s not just hedges that this place has to offer though – there is also the beautiful architecture of the Chateau and the Chapel, the Aviary, an Allosaurus skeleton (I really wasn’t expecting to see a dinosaur here), a quaint tea-room, terrace restaurant and the 192m high balcony overlooking the river (plus much more!).

2). Grande Theatre de Bordeaux, Bordeaux

This elegant building is Bordeaux’s Opera House, an excellent example of the gorgeous architecture found in and around the city. If you have the time, why not pop in and see a show? I wish we’d had the time! The photo above is actually the view from my hotel room and street performers would come out into the square in the evening and entertain, it was great!

3). Cathédrale Saint-André de Bordeaux, Bordeaux

A magnificent 11th-century cathedral in the heart of the city and only a short walk from Europe’s longest shopping street – Rue Sainte-Catherine (with a Sephora opening soon – how exciting!). This is yet another perfect example of the beautiful architecture in Bordeaux.

4). Monument aux Girondins, Bordeaux

Another great historical monument, complete with graceful water fountains and a towering column. This place is right by the tram and bus stops so it’s easy to get too. Definitely worth taking a look at this wonderful landmark and it’s also a great place to get those Instagram worthy shots!

5). Le Murano, Bordeaux

Of course I had to include a food visit to this post! This Italian restaurant serves the most delicious food, I went for the ravioli and it was AH-MAY-ZING (honestly, it was the best pasta I’ve ever had). I highly recommend visiting here if you get the chance!

6). Sarlat-la-Canéda Market, Périgord

I can never visit France without checking out the local markets, and this market is one of the biggest and best in the region. Held every Saturday, it is rammed packed with lots of stalls selling everything from clothing to yummy cooked food and fresh veg – as well as some of the amazing hand-crafted gifts made by locals.

As you can probably tell I spent a few days seeing the sights in the city of Bordeaux! I would highly recommend going if you get the chance, it’s a bloggers paradise – filled with cute little side streets and chic French cafes. If you don’t have much time to explore the city I’d recommend getting the Visiotour sight-seeing bus. It shows you all the worthwhile sights of the city in just over an hour!

Love

Chessie. x

p.s. have you ever visited Bordeaux or France even? Let me know where you went!

I’ve been to Paris before and didn’t actually enjoy it that much. One of the reasons why might be because I was ill the whole trip but I just don’t think it’s really my city… Judging from the photos I think I’d really enjoy Bordeaux though! It looks absolutely amazing :)x
